And the war begins..

Are you ready?!

It's the nerve-wracking time of the year again.. Just wanna encourage national exam-takers to press on for the last lap!

'O's will start from tomorrow (!!!), 26th Oct, all the way to 13th November.

'A' level will commence on the 10th November and ends on 30th November.

Let us all remember them and pray for those in need of God's wisdom and strength to be upon them. Pray that they are able to have a peaceful mind and a calm heart, and fully utilise the time left to revise.

Holy Matrimony

Praise God for His wonderful matchmaking! In His Holy presence, Bro Yaosheng and Sis Bihui tied the knot on 10 October and are now husband and wife. Held in Chen Li Church on a saturday afternoon, the couple exchanged their vows, and had a great wedding reception! Bro Yaosheng wrote a song and sang it specially for his beloved wife, and Sis Bihui returned the love by singing in her melodious voice that left everyone impressed and inspired.

They have set the standard for many more weddings to come, and the next one we'll be looking forward to is Sis Xiaoying's wedding, which will be held in November!

Held on the 3rd of October (definitely not Oktober Fest), Chen Li celebrated Mid-Autumn Festival in the church premises. Commonly known to some as Moon Cake Festival or Lantern Festival, the festival is held on the 15th day of the eighth month in the chinese calenders. Our brothers and sisters were treated to a delightful variety of delicacies, from korean styled pork and beef to amazing kuehs and desserts.

A meaningful video introduced to me. You Love Me Anyway by Sidewalk Prophets.

Lyrics

The question was raised
As my conscience fell
A silly little lie
It didn't mean much
But it lingers still
In the corners of my mind

Still You call me to walk
On the edge of this world
To spread my dreams and fly
But the future's so far
My heart is so frail
I think I'd rather stay inside

CHORUS
But You love me anyway
It's like nothing in life that I've ever known
Yes You love me anyway
Oh Lord, how You love me

It took more than my strength
To simply be still
To seek but never find
All the reasons we change
The reasons I doubt
Why do loved ones have to die

But You love me anyway
It's like nothing in life that I've ever known
Yes You love me anyway
Oh Lord, how You love me

I am the thorn in Your crown
But You love me anyway
I am the sweat from Your brow
But You love me anyway
I am the nail in Your wrist
But You love me anyway
I am Judas' kiss
But You love me anyway

See now I am the man
Who yelled out from the crowd
For your blood to be spilled
On this earth shaking ground
Yes and I turned away with a smile on my face
With this sin in my heart
Tried to bury Your grace
And then alone in the night
I still called out for You
So ashamed of my life
My life
My life

But You loved me anyway
Oh God how You loved me

But You love me anyway
It's like nothing in life that I've ever known
Yes You love me anyway
Oh Lord, how You love me

You love me
Yes You love me (x3)
How you love me (x3)

Update from Dawn (facebook excerpt)

Esther: Hi Dawn, how are u? are u settling well in your new school? We're missing you..:)

Dawn: I'm missing all of you too!!! =) Yep, am settling well here- have survived 2 weeks already =) How are you?

Her timetable's really packed too! When there's free time, she'll force herself to practice. How disciplined!

Happenings in church on a happening day

Sherman is back from his 6 week trip out in the seas. Visiting 3 countries, including Vietnam and Indonesia for training and to develop diplomatic relations, he has gained a wealth of seamanship experience. Now he's a confident sailor, and definitely someone whom you want to take out to sea with!

The youths of Chen Li celebrated Teacher's Day today, albeit 2 weeks later, but they sure did have a great deal of fun!

Organised by the youth fellowship (I think is Youth Ablaze), the celebration started out with a trivia quiz. The quiz challenged many of the bible groups when they were posed the simplest question such as, "what is his favourite holiday destination?". But coincidentally, quite a few of the bible class teachers had "Maldives" as their answer. Which led to a number of excited individuals shouting "Maldives, maldives!" at every trivial question that arose. This is what our dear ND would say, "Woah, very happening horr!?"

I'm sure our bible study groups had a greater insight regarding what their teachers are most afraid of after the quiz. Lets see, "Something that JJ is most afraid of?" And after much speculation and discussion, the answer revealed was..."Bi Hui"! That made everyone's day =D

The celebration ended with a cheering session for teachers, plus a birthday celebration for the September babies.

For those who wants to know which was the most happening cheer, ask the most hyper and energetic chao on group under SGH. They'll gladly repeat their cheer.

Note from Rebecca Tan, O's start on 24 Oct..jiayou for those studying!

36th Mission Sunday Service

Mission work has been an active ministry in Chen Li. The numerous testimonies from our various missionaries to Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Indonesia, and many others are an encouragement and inspiration for our brothers and sisters to pledge their efforts in contributing whatever means they can.

Rev. Li's sermon on "The Church's Testimony" concluded our church's 36th Mission Week, and with the Lord's grace, our members pledged a total of approx $240k for mission work.

His sermon included stories about how he served the neighbourhood along with other church members to clean up the streets. That effort led to plenty of non-believers joining in the effort, and bonded the 'servants'.

Our senior pastor, Rev. Phua, has also announced that all the elders and deacons standing for elections were elected. Praise God for His faithfulness!

After service, the Thai ministry prepared delicacies for our members to purchase. The proceeds will go to fund their short mission trips. We pray that God will use them strongly!

Church Annual General Meeting completed!

Chen Li Church just completed her annual general meeting with 211 members present in service. The annual church report for finance and budget is passed, and whether our Bro. Yaosheng will be elected into Deacon-ship will depend on what the congregation voted.

Right after the service, we had a farewell lunch for Rev. Sin, who will assume her new post as Senior Pastor at Holy Grace Presbyterian Church.

We wish Rev Sin all the best. May God continue to lead her, give her wisdom to embark on a new journey with HGPC, and tell many others of His greatness!

There will be a service on Mission week this coming weekend, starting on thursday, 10 Sept. Do join us!

祂大能拯救 嘉蘭部落見神蹟

A testimony from a pastor in Taiwan. Sent through email by my relatives from Taiwan.

Dawn's Testimony

It was a miracle that I got in to The Yehudi Menuhin School, a prestigious music School for young musicians to develop their talents in.

The auditions for admission to the school had already closed, and God had amazingly helped me to still earn a place in the School. It was after a master class with the School’s “Head of Strings, that God weaved a way for me to getting a place in the School.

The master class went very well-- The Head of Strings, Professor Natasha Boyarsky, turned out to be very impressed with me. She even told me that, if Lord Yehudi Menuhin were still alive, he would be impressed and like me very much as well! =D

She immediately specially arranged an audition for me to enter the School.

Everything, under God’s control, went very smoothly. With God’s guidance and support, I got through all three tough stages of the audition successfully.

I will be joining the Yehudi Menuhin School in September this year, and God has also blessed me with the privilege of studying under Professor Natasha Boyarsky, who is an accomplished and well-known violin professor.

I really thank God for always being there for me to protect and guide me, and to give me wisdom, strength, and courage in everything that I do. =D

Amen.

Pastoral Movement on National Day 090809

Rev Phua will be preaching at the 1st mission congress of Toong Chai Presbyterian Church.

Pr Luke will be preaching at the Indonesian service today at 8.30am. Please remember them in prayer.

Preacher Eunice's Words before her departure

Parting Words from Pr Eunice…

Remember to remember…

I had been frowning at my packing list and growing anxious over the fact that I could never be well-prepared for the next ten months in YDS. God saw my problem and whispered to me, “Why are you more anxious about a short trip on earth rather than your one-way trip into eternity?” This question brought me to my knees. I surrendered my desire to be in control of the future, because it is not in my hands. Since God has prepared the way to eternity, He will surely take care of my present needs. As I turned my bible to Ecclesiastes 12, the word “remember” hit me immediately.

1. Remember your Creator when you are still young (12:1)

For those who think they are still young, God wants them to remember that they came to this world not by chance, but by the deliberate will of God. There is nothing we can brag about no matter how strong, beautiful or smart we are. The moment we were born, we were tagged with an expiry date. Soon, all the excitement and fanfare will fade and life will come to an end. “Then man goes to his eternal home and mourners go about the streets.” (12:5) Before we are fully prepared, our names will be called and we will have to fall in line to enter the gate of eternity.

2. Remember him before you die (12:6)

The second call to remember is issued to people who feel that they still have plenty of time or who don’t care at all. The truth is—we will never know when death will come knocking, and the only chance we have is now! We will never have enough of what we want but pursuing these desires will eventually result in emptiness when God is not at the centre of our life.

The conclusion (12:13-14)

The wise and resourceful Teacher had searched for an answer and this is his conclusion—we will be judged for everything we do: “Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or bad.”

Paul came to a similar conclusion in Phil 2:12-15, “continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose. Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation…”

As children of God, we must reflect our relationship with Him in our daily lives. If we are in Christ, we will produce good work that counts towards eternity. Remember to remember Jesus Christ, your way to eternity!

We give Preacher Eunice our blessings and wish her all the best for her studies! To God be the Glory!

Lyrics, Gonna Catch Em' All!

On 2 August afternoon, Synergy organised a follow-up event to the Parables Camp called "Lyrics, Gonna Catch Em' All".

More than 40 people turned up and participated in the exciting event that had many 'hidden talents' revealing their vocal skills. Despite experiencing some techical difficulties, everyone thoroughly enjoyed the singing and supported their individual group representatives.

Ranging from oldies but goodies to billboard top 40 hits, the participants spared no effort to hit the right tunes with the correct lyrics!

We had a few new and old friends turning up, and indeed it was a great time of fellowship together!

Praise God for Dawn

God reveals his character to us each in a different yet special way.

Dawn shared to us that God is her Confidence, as God gave her the 5th place in the international violin competition in Prague this year. Well, here's another great news! God has given her a place in Yehudi Menuhin School in England. It's the top school for the top musicians in the whole world!

Dawn will be leaving Singapore in September this year, and she'll return to Singapore only in 4 years time. She'll visit us every 6 months or so within these few years, and will still serve in the worship ministry when she's back!

Praise God for His goodness in Dawn's life!

Congratulations to Dawn and may God use her musical gift for His glory! We will all certainly miss her!
